Week 12 Blog Post

This week we are finalizing our media and preparing it for our website. The media that we have has included many photos and videos from our practice sessions that we have had as a group. One thing that I wish that we could change differently for next time would be to start our media grabbing a lot sooner. With our situation I think it would of been easier if we started earlier because we could have gotten a different variety of types of media (interviews, rule, more instructional, etc.).

This week for the group we had another group session after our first one with our instructor and talked about plans for the future and seeing if those who are close to each other would be willing to help with capturing media and getting extra things that could help us. Being able to use phone media however will make this a lot more possible considering the quality of the cameras are as good as other cameras that we have used in the past. My contribution this included kind of taking the leader role for our second meeting, directing the conversations and getting updates making sure that everyone is still on track throughout the time we are working together.

One major aspect of our media that I think we have done really well is the fact that we were able to get some live shots before the pandemic shut everything down. This is great because we do not have to scramble to find ways to get creative with media as much as we already have a lot of it at our fingertips. It has also been shared with everyone so we have been able to make any edits and finishing touches necessary to ensure our videos and photos are pristine. Clark, Dane, and I are also going to meet up sometime next week to do some interviews since we are all still in Lincoln and it would add another aspect to set us apart from the pack. This will also really allow us to show our personalities and sense of humor in ways to make this come into our own. The challenge of distance has obviously been the main thing holding us back, but we have all been very communicative throughout it all and so it has definitely lightened the burden felt. Everyone knows their role and I am confident in everyone’s ability to get it done to the best of their ability.

This week, as mentioned before, we all shared any media we had with each other and provided a lot of feedback and critiques. We got rid of unnecessary or low quality media so we could shine bright with quality videos and photos. I did not have a lot of media on my own per-say, but I believe I contributed a lot with helping out with what we have. The challenges we faced was figuring out how to round out our project and finish strong, but we will figure out any remaining challenges we have when we meet next week. In the future, I will make sure to capture any media I can, because you never know how useful it could be in the end.

This week we have been getting all of our media combined into a box folder. I haven’t had a chance to look at it yet or add mine because I have been busy just starting a new job but I am going to add it this weekend. I am not really worried about anything at this point in time. We have been in constant communication and all have a pretty good idea of what we are trying to accomplish for the project. The only challenges of our project we have really encountered is this whole Covid thing besides that it’s been smooth.

Like I said we’ve all been in communication adding our stuff into the box folder so that has been my contribution as well as tuning into the zoom meeting. I think once we get all this media finalized it should be easy to finish up the rest of the semester it will just be organizing it and deciding how we want to present it.

Week 11 Blog Post

This week we had our first mobile meeting with our instructor. Our team this week came up with our play of continuing this project with us putting our pieces of the project in individually. I personally will continue from here on out by contributing to the website and by making my own videos of rules and instruction. The rules videos could include videos of basic rules along with situational rules that might not happen all the time.

For our website I believe that we need to have a variety of different types of interactivity. I believe that we need to also look the mobile version and make sure that it converts to a version that it makes it smaller to fit the screen but also still makes all text and pictures readable to the mobile website user. It would make it better as well if we could have it to where a video went full screen on mobile when someone clicks it. It would make it easier to see the video and for someone to follow the instructions if they wanted to. Navigation and accessibility in today’s society are the most important things when it comes to viewing on most mobile devices.

Week 11 Blog Post

A good website in my opinion is very graphically appealing to the eye. It’s important that we have a fun looking website so that the people that visit it can be more engaged. No one wants to visit a website that looks boring and bland, so it’s important that we work hard on this. Thanks to the Web modules in prior classes, I feel prepared for this. Most good websites display this, along with neatness as well. What I mean by this is that most everything important on the size is accessible at all times. That way, the user doesn’t get lost while navigating it.

We have to make sure that we tell the story of our project in an interesting way to attract more eyes. Especially with the hurdles we’ve faced and the shots we have so far, we have quite the story to tell and we need to make sure to tell it right. If we do this, it will definitely separate us from the rest of the pack.

The team meeting we had this week cleared up a lot of the questions I had. The people here in Lincoln (Dane, Clark and I) will try to meet up and work on thing if we can, but we are prepared for anything. That is obviously the biggest challenge we face, but thanks to Zoom it’ll be manageable. We will have to coordinate who works on what for the website but I feel like we can do this successfully. I’m fully confident that we will have a strong product when it’s all said and done.

I think the biggest aspect of a “good” website is its cleanliness and how easy it is to navigate. I think this is even more important that the content the website contains. You can have the absolute best content possible on your website, but it is too cluttered, too hard to find that information, etc., your viewer will never see it. In putting out website together, given that we are confident in the content we have and can still get, I think our biggest focus should be making it clean and easy to navigate. I also think it will be essential that we make it mobile compatible. Speaking from my own personal experience, I probably do more web surfing on a phone/tablet than my laptop, and websites that aren’t compatible are very hard to view, and makes the experience much worse.

This week, we had our first weekly check in, and spent some time on Zoom after the check into to talk as a team and discuss where we are/what we need to do. We have a solid plan going forward, and thanks to our reactiveness early in the semester, have enough content collected that we can still salvage our original project idea.

I had my interactive analysis presentation this week so that was one thing I did this week. Mine was a website made by a Puerto Rican rapper named Residente. It was really cool and made for the purpose of showing all of his humanitarian efforts from around the world. It was a really cool sight and my group could definitely use some of the media that he had on there. He had some cool stuff with pictures and video and the way he had them mapped out that I think could be really useful for my group.

This week as well we also had our zoom meeting. We decided we’re going to take a little bit of a more individual approach to our project due to the circumstances and do it as we are the instructors. We have already captured a ton of media and have been steadily meeting so i don’t think we should have an issue as long as we all just stay in communication. We haven’t discussed what our website would look at mobily versus on a computer so that is something that i think well probably talk about next week, otherwise besides that i have started to get the website built this week during the quarantine i’m in, in denver.

We’re still trying to figure some things out, but with the zoom meeting this week it helped us set some things in stone for the coming weeks. I unfortunately was not able to attend the meeting but I will make sure to talk with everyone to get myself filled in. From what I saw in our group chat, it seemed like the guys were getting some stuff figured out.

Once we all talk and brainstorm some more, I think I’d like to start working on the website and getting the design figured out. One idea I had was to look at a ton of other blogs/websites that might be relatable to ours, pick out a few, and then show them to everyone and see which one they like the most. I wouldn’t just copy everything over, but at least that way we have something to go off of. I’m open to other ideas, but this is what I’ve thought of for now.

I’m still thinking about how we’re going to get more footage because videos and photos are the whole backbone of the project. We were able to get a significant amount at the beginning of the semester/before school went online, but that was just the pre-practice stage for getting things sorted out before we went to a real course. I know that a couple guys were able to go out and get some footage themselves which will help, and Zach mentioned we could do online interviews or something to get more video. It seems like we’re going to have to move golf teaching all online, which is kind of counter intuitive, but I think we can make it into something pretty cool.

This week our group talked some more on where we are all going to be at for the rest of the semester. Luckily some of us will still be in Lincoln for the remainder of the semester so if we’re feeling brave (and healthy) enough then we can get together and collaborate on some stuff. I will most likely continue working on ideas for our website and our brand, designing new things and create new things for our project.

I’m looking forward to working on the website and making it look appealing. The process for which I’m doing this is still in the works, but it’s going to involve lots of youtube videos and tutorials. We already have some google docs with our content on them and I think we have some dormant photos and videos still on Dane’s camera.

Matt went ahead and did some golfing over the weekend I believe and was able to get some stuff which will help, and I have a roommate who likes to golf so I might see if the guys are cool with him pitching in a little bit and teaching me some more. I know he’s not in the class but I figured we could make some compromises. Plus if my roommates and I have to quarantine ourselves he could still help me out because we have a big yard.

Blog Post 3/13

So this week was pretty crazy in terms of all the cancellations going on, and everyone figuring out what they’re going to do for their living situations. I haven’t read anyone elses posts yet if they are there, but for the time being it seems like some of us are going our separate ways and heading home. What really is going to do a number on our project is Zach going back to Kansas City since he was essentially the leader of the project.

Before all of this went down we had made some plans to meet up and do more practice/get some more content, but now that things are cancelling we are going to have to compromise and use what we got. I’m sure within the next few weeks we can figure something out. Plus we can still do much of our project online thankfully. We just have to see what all content we can get.
